Eyelid Aesthetics

What is Eyelid Aesthetics?

Eyelid aesthetics is a surgical procedure performed to correct problems in the eye area. These problems can be appearance problems such as sagging eyelids, excess skin, bagging, wrinkles around the eyes, under-eye circles.

This procedure can be performed for both aesthetic and functional reasons. For example, sagging in the upper eyelid can narrow the visual field, while bagging in the lower eyelid gives a tired or aged appearance.

The eyelid aesthetic procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia and the procedure time is between 1-2 hours. During the operation, excess skin, fat or muscle tissue is removed and the incisions are closed with sutures. The healing process may take several weeks and swelling, bruising and tenderness may be observed.

Eyelid surgery can be a safe and effective option for suitable candidates. However, as with any surgical procedure, there can be risks and complications. Therefore, it is advisable to speak to a plastic surgeon before having this procedure.

How is Eyelid Aesthetics Performed?

The eyelid aesthetic procedure is a surgical procedure usually performed under local anesthesia and the procedure time is approximately 1-2 hours. Before the procedure, the surgeon will have a detailed consultation with you and determine which type of procedure is most suitable for you.

Eyelid surgery can be performed on the lower eyelid, upper eyelid or both. Depending on how the procedure will be performed, the surgeon will usually follow the following steps:

  1. Anesthesia The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, but in some cases general anesthesia may be preferred.

  2. Incisions In the eyelid aesthetic procedure, incisions are usually made following the natural folds. For the upper eyelid, incisions are made along the fold line of the eyelid. For the lower eyelid, incisions are made along the natural folds under the eye.

  3. Removal of excess tissue: After the incisions are made, the surgeon removes excess skin, fat or muscle tissue. This removes sagging or bagging of the eyelid.

  4. Closing the incisions: The surgeon closes the incisions with stitches. Most stitches can be removed after about a week.

  5. Healing: The healing process may take several weeks. During this time, swelling, bruising and tenderness may occur.

Eyelid surgery can be a safe and effective option for suitable candidates. However, as with any surgical procedure, there can be risks and complications. Therefore, it is advisable to speak to a plastic surgeon before having this procedure.

After Eyelid Aesthetics

The recovery process after eyelid aesthetics may vary from person to person, but it usually consists of the following stages:

  1. First days During the first few days after eyelid surgery, your eyes may swell and bruising may appear. This is normal and usually goes away within a few days.

  2. First week During the first week, you may experience mild pain, itching and tenderness in the eyelid area. During this time, you may need to avoid washing your face and applying makeup.

  3. First month: During the first month, you may need to allow time for your eyelids to fully heal. You can normally return to your daily activities after eyelid surgery, but it is recommended to avoid excessive activity.

  4. Completion of healing: The healing process after eyelid surgery may take several weeks or months until it is complete. During this time, it is important to monitor the healing of your eyelids and have regular check-ups with your surgeon.

Although complications after eyelid surgery are rare, there may be risks such as infection, bleeding, wound dehiscence or complications due to anesthesia. Therefore, if you experience any symptoms or problems, you should contact your surgeon immediately.
